Ratchapon Pringprayoon

This modestly-sized and stackable wooden chair is easy to store with a minimum of fuss. Once displayed, it showcases an elegant silhouette juxtaposing a great dimension of light and shadow. Inspired by the structure of the local Thai pagoda whose form is simple yet subtly composed of clean curved lines, the design is a product of cultural heritage developed through means of simplification and reduction of form.

The chair’s seamlessly curved backrest resembles a circular base of a bell-shaped pagoda which contrasts with straight lines of its back posts and legs imitating the acute angles of the pagoda’s carving cornices. A paradoxical statement of intricacy and strength, this chair boasts the robustness of a three-dimensional statuesque composition while enticing the fine outline and splendor.
